It's not just the mega-churches anymore....

I've written at some length about the mega-church closing issue, but now I see it isn't just them. Smaller churches around the country, including two that I've seen around here, are closing their doors on Christmas Day.

I was talking about this with my Dad yesterday on the way to Church, and he said, "Isn't Christmas on a Sunday?" I said yes. Then he asked, "wouldn't they be open anyway, on a Sunday?" I affirmed that. He then added, "and wouldn't they be open on Christmas, too?" I answered that I supposed they would be. "So why are they closed when it's Christmas and a Sunday, which should give them two reasons to offer a service?"

Good points, Dad. Good points. :)

I find this whole church closing thing to be highly ironic with all the Christian-led hubbub over businesses saying "happy holidays" and "seasons greetings" and "x-mas." Why should we expect the world to respect Christmas when we close our churches for it?!

I completely agree. What a horrible example they set by closing their doors on our Lords birthday.

I agree. Is it not the primary duty of a church to be open on the birth of the Founder of Christianity? I am Catholic and say that all Christian churches should be open on Christmas day and on every sabbath rain or shine. I think it is a blessing that Christmas is on a Sunday this year.
